Kids on the streets of LaosCan you help?

We hope that you enjoy your holiday in Asia.  No matter where you go, you are sure to have a wonderful time, welcomed by some of the nicest people that you will come across in this world.

Whilst Asia is a terrific location, it does have its social problems, which are well documented.  One of these problems is the welfare and care of children who have no parents or relatives to look after them. Children who have to scavenge in the local dump to find items to sell.  Or worse still, children who are lured into prostitution or drug trafficking.

There are many organisations that are working to alleviate some of the social problems faced by children in Asia.  Lots can and is being done to help those in need.

One such project is  Childlife in Mai Sai. Childlife is providing direct intervention for children at risk in Maesai, Northern Thailand at the border to Burma.  They are a not-for-profit organisation that seeks to care for all children in need, regardless of race or nationality.  Childlife's aim is to provide children in need with food, education and a safe environment where they can get the support they need as children.

Childlife depends on the work of volunteers and donations to undertake its work.  It is not part of a larger organisation and does not have access to funding pools or large assets.

Did you know that just 30 Euros is enough to feed between 100-150 kids for a day?  That's right!  The price of your next lunch outing would feed over 100 kids for the entire day.  So, we here at LatASIA are asking you to consider forfeiting your next lunch outing, replacing it with a sandwich, and donating the money saved to Childlife.  They accept payments via PayPal as well as by bank transfer.

So, why not do something deeply rewarding this week and use your lunch budget to feed some kids in need?

LatASIA has no direct relationship with the Childlife project or any of its staff.  It is a project that we became aware of in 2006 and have donated to since then.

Visit the Childlife website at www.childlife-maesai.org to find out more about their work and the ways in which you can support them.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
